NIU men fall to Bowling Green despite Keshawn Williams’ 32 points

Northern Illinois’ men’s basketball team struggled down the stretch Tuesday at the Convocation Center in DeKalb, suffering a 92-83 Mid-American Conference loss to Bowling Green.

The Huskies and Falcons battled to a 32-32 tie at halftime, the visitors were able to pull away in the second half.

Keshawn Williams led all scorers with a career-high 32 points for NIU (5-9, 2-2 MAC), Kaleb Thornton scored 13 points, and Trendon Hankerson chipped in with 11.

Samari Curtis scored 21 points to lead Bowling Green (9-8, 2-4).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Kaneland 49, Sandwich 20: At Maple Park, the Knights rolled to an overwhelming Interstate Eight Conference win over Sandwich.

McKenzie Schueler led the way with 12 points and five rebounds for Kaneland (11-10, 6-2), and Kendra Brown added nine points.

Earlville 41, Hinckley-Big Rock 36: At Serena, the Royals fell to Earlville in a close one at the Little Ten Conference Tournament.

Ashleigh Wackerlin led the way with 19 points in the loss. H-BR will face off with Hiawatha in the consolation bracket Thursday at Earlville.

Sycamore 50, Rochelle 31: At Rochelle, the Spartans were led by Evyn Carrier with 14 points in a victory over the Hubs. Lexi Carlsen added 11 points.

WRESTLING

North Boone triangular: At Poplar Grove, the Cogs split a pair of matches on the road, defeating North Boones, 48-30, and narrowly losing to Byron, 42-38.

Ben Younker led the way with wins in both matches for G-K.

BOYS SWIMMING

Guilford double dual: At Rockford, DeKalb took first in every event and beat Guilford and Rockford Christian in a double dual meet.

DeKalb registered 113 points, considerably ahead of Guilford’s 62 and Rockford Christian’s 30.

Jacob Gramer took first place in the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle, and Noah Johnson was tops in both the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke to lead the Barbs.
