Local sports roundup for Saturday, Jan. 15

Keshawn Williams put up 18 points for Northern Illinois University in its 77-70 win over Eastern Michigan at home in DeKalb on Saturday.

Kaleb Thornton added 15 points for the Huskies, Trendon Hankerson scored 12, Adong Makoui chipped in 11 points and Anthony Crump had 10 points.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Toledo 73, Northern Illinois 52: At DeKalb, the Huskies were unable to keep up with the MAC-leading Rockets at home.

A’Jah Davis had her fifth-straight double-double in spite of the loss, putting up 24 points to go with 10 rebounds.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Genoa-Kingston 57, Hinckley-Big Rock 51: At Genoa, the Cogs defended their home floor from the Royals to pick up a solid win.

Jake Oates led the way with 19 points in the sixth win in a row for G-K (15-3) and Colin Nesler scored 15.

Judson Scott had 18 points for H-BR (12-8) and Ben Hintzsche added 11 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Sycamore 53, Sandwich 31: At Sandwich, the Spartans improved to 17-0 overall and 7-0 in conference play with a road win over Sandwich.

WRESTLING

Yorkville quadrangular: At Yorkville, Kaneland had one win and a pair of losses in four-way action, defeating Oak Lawn and losing to Wheaton North and Yorkville.

Cameron Phillips, Caden Grabowski, Kyle Rogers, Cole Olsen, Ade Sanni, Diego Serriteno and Nate Diaz recorded wins in the Knights’ 40-21 win over Oak Lawn.

Phillips, Serriteno, Diaz and Cameron Scholl had wins in the 45-30 loss to Wheaton North and no one made a sound in the third match — a 76-0 loss to Yorkville.

BOYS BOWLING

Sycamore Regional: At Sycamore, the Spartans earned a spot at sectionals by finishing fourth out of 12 teams in postseason action at home.

Sycamore edged DeKalb, who placed fifth and missed advancement, by 79 pins and Kaneland came ninth.

Evan Borowicz led the Spartans with a 1190 series, Tommy Rebuletti wasn’t far behind at 1158 and Jaxon Lang came in at 1106. Kaneland’s Corbin Vines and Dylan Conklin advanced to sectionals as individuals with scores of 1261 and 1169, respectively, as did DeKalb’s Aaron Lewis (1142) and Michael Sciabaras (1139).
