Sycamore shuts out Belvidere North to open boys soccer regional

The Sycamore boys soccer team picked up a 7-0 win over Belvidere North in the first round of the Class 2A Belvidere Regional.

Max Breidenbach scored three goals, and Jules Breidenbach added two. Evan Radisic and Noah Schmidt also scored.

Coach Dave Bachta said it was the first time the Spartans played on a football field, and the smaller dimensions played to their height, and the throw-in abilities of Austin Gerdes. Five of the Sycamore goals were off his throw-ins.

“We have good size and our guys like to win the ball in the air,” Bachta said. “[Gerdes] can probably throw it in the air 40 yards, plus you have guys like the Breidenbach boys who are 6-2 and Evan is 6-1. So we have some big kids to throw it up to.”

The Spartans advance to face No. 2 Belvidere in the championship match at 3 p.m. Saturday.
