Local sports roundup for Tuesday, March 2

A 20-point outing from Indian Creek’s Brooke Heiman proved too much for Hinckley-Big Rock as the Timberwolves won, 61-49, Tuesday night in Shabbona.

A silver lining for H-BR, however, was another strong performance from senior Tessa Prellberg. She scored 20 points in the loss and broke the school record for 3-pointers in a career by making her 140th as a Royal.

Ashleigh Wackerlin added 12 points in the loss, while Devin Warner scored eight.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Western Michigan 73, Northern Illinois 63: At DeKalb, NIU continued its rocky campaign with a Mid-American Conference loss at the Convocation Center to Western Michigan.

Despite a strong performance from guard Tyler Cochran, who scored a game-high 19 points, the Huskies never managed to find the push they needed in a game that saw them narrowly trail throughout.

Trendon Hankerson scored 16 points for the Huskies as they fell to 2-16 overall, while Nathan Scott added 12 points and Kaleb Thornton scored 10.

Northern Illinois will play Friday in Mount Pleasant, Mich., where it will wrap up its season slate against Central Michigan.
