CHICAGO – A DeKalb teenager was arrested Tuesday and faces felony charges in Chicago after police said he and others hijacked multiple vehicles and robbed several victims over the summer.
The teen also is a student and was arrested while at DeKalb High School, DeKalb School District 428 spokesperson Rita Elliott said Wednesday.
“This did take place at the high school without incident, and the student is enrolled,” Elliott said.
The 14-year-old, who authorities have not identified, is charged with three felony counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and two felony counts of armed robbery, according to a Wednesday news release from the Chicago Police Department.
The boy was arrested Tuesday in the 500 block of West Dresser Road in DeKalb by authorities with the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and Robbery Task Force, according to the release.
DeKalb High School is at 501 W. Dresser Road.
Police said the robberies and hijackings happened June 29 and 30 all near Chicago’s North Side. Police said they believe there are multiple suspects.
The first attack targeted a 44-year-old man in the 3700 block of North Clark Street. The second happened to a woman, 36, in the 5100 block of West Dakin Street. And the third targeted a man, 38, in the 5200 block of West Fullerton Avenue, police said.
