Sycamore man charged with forgery after multiple attempts to cash forged checks under landlord’s name

SYCAMORE – A Sycamore man is facing multiple felony charges after police said he tried to cash several forged checks at a Resource Bank using the name of a man from whom he was renting.

Bradley A. Walker, 40, of the 300 block of Locust Street in Sycamore, Walker was charged Tuesday with three counts of forgery, a Class 3 felony, for three different allegations of attempting to cash a forged check. If convicted, Walker faces up to five years in prison and fines up to $25,000.

According to DeKalb County court documents, on Tuesday, the alleged victim went to the Sycamore Police Department and told police a woman he was with had noticed Walker “holding an unusual amount of cash,” according to records . The victim told police he’d been renting a room inside his residence to Walker for about a month.

Later that evening, Sycamore police said the victim told them he went home and was unable to find his check book, so he went to Resource Bank the next morning to check his account activity and was told there recently were three checks cashed. Each check was written to and endorsed by Walker, totaling $2,575, the report alleges. The victim’s name was signed at the bottom of each check, although he allegedly told the bank he had not written them himself or authorize anyone else to do so.

Sycamore police allege that on April 22, Walker attempted to cash a check payable to himself in the amount of $875 and signed with his landlord’s name. Walker allegedly tried two more times in the days after to cash similar checks, each for different amounts, one for $850 no April 23 and one for $850 on April 26.

Walker is next scheduled to appear in court again on May 5 at 1:30 p.m. for a status hearing.
