Illinois reaches 46% fully vaccinated, new pandemic-low for COVID-19 hospitalizations

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 248 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 16 additional deaths Thursday, and a total of 12,108,359 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered.

For Wednesday, the state administered 38,268 shots.

The state received the results of 47,237 COVID-19 tests in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday afternoon. The state’s positivity rate remained at 0.7%.

Illinois has seen 1,388,586 total cases of the virus, and 23,120 people have died. The state has conducted a total of 25,318,410 tests since the start of the pandemic.

As of late Wednesday, Illinois had a new pandemic-low of 524 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 138 were in intensive care units, and 73 were on ventilators.

The state remained at 64 total cases of the Delta variant.

Vaccine update: As of Thursday, IDPH reported a total of 14,019,535 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed statewide, with 12,108,359 vaccines administered.

As of Thursday, 5,871,511 Illinoisans have been fully vaccinated, or 46.08% of the population. Illinois has a population of 12,741,080 people.

Fully Vaccinated: 5,456,492 (50.3%)

Among Illinois residents 65 and older:

Fully Vaccinated: 1,483,847 (72.6%)

The North Suburban (McHenry and Lake counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 1.1%. Currently, 33% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, McHenry County’s seven-day positivity rate average stayed flat at 1.6%. Lake County, which does about two-thirds of the testing in the region, is reporting a rolling average of 1.0%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to a total of 25 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The West Suburban (DuPage and Kane counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 1.2%. Currently, 31% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity rate decreased to 1.8%, and DuPage County’s decreased to 1.0%.

Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region. The region is down to 56 total COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The South Suburban (Will and Kankakee counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 1.2%. Currently, 26% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, DeKalb County’s positivity rate increased to 1.4%, Lee County’s rate stayed at 0.0%, and Whiteside County’s increased to 0.7%.

The North-Central (Bureau, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Kendall, Knox, La Salle, Livingston, Marshall, McDonough, McLean, Mercer, Peoria, Putnam, Rock Island, Stark, Tazewell, Warren and Woodford counties) region’s positivity rate decreased to 1.2%.

Within this region, La Salle County’s seven-day positivity rate increased to 1.6%. Currently, 32% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 out of the past 10 days. The region is down to a total of 47 COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

Chicago’s positivity rate fell to 0.8%. Currently, 20% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable for 10 out of the past 10 days.

Suburban Cook County’s positivity rate fell to 1.1%. Currently, 21% of ICU beds are available. Hospitalizations decreased or remained stable 10 out of the past 10 days in this region.
