Gov. JB Pritzker announced that several groups will be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine leading up to April 12, when the state plans on expanding eligibility to all Illinois residents ages 16 and older.
As of Monday, higher education staff, government workers and media will be eligible, followed by food and beverage workers, construction trade workers and religious leaders as of March 29.
On April 12, all Illinois residents ages 16 and older will be eligible.
“With +1M doses expected weekly in April, we’re on track to save lives and bring this pandemic to an end,” Pritzker tweeted Friday.
Some counties expressed concerns Thursday about hitting the April 12 target, and not all counties have moved forward in the vaccine phases as quickly as the state.
Before Illinois expands eligibility to all residents 16 and over on April 12, I’m proud to announce expanded eligibility for additional groups of more vulnerable populations.
