Bureau County Soil and Water Conservation District give fifth graders lessons about conservation

PRINCETON — Bureau County Soil and Water Conservation District on Monday hosted its annual Conservation Day at Warnecke Woods.

Six Bureau County schools sent fifth grade students into the woods, Warnecke Woods, to learn about conservation. Students had the opportunity to learn about composting, growing vegetables, monarch butterfly migration, reptiles, hemp, building their own shelter and capped off the morning of adventure with a nature walk.

The event, which has been going on for a decade, featured speakers from local Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Extension offices, as well as environmental educators.
