Bureau County grand jury returns indictments

PRINCETON — Bureau County grand jury on Sept. 10 returned the following indictments:

Ricardo Martinez, 27, Muscatine, Iowa, was indicted for the class X felony of unlawful possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (cocaine). He is accused of possessing, with the intent to deliver, 900 grams of a substance containing cocaine. A trooper from the Illinois State Police testified before the grand jury. Martinez is free from custody of the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office after posting bond in the amount of $150,000-10% of which was paid for his release.

Zachary A. Sterling, 28, of Princeton was indicted for the class 2 felony offense of unlawful possession with intent to deliver cannabis and the class 2 felony offense of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He is accused of possessing, with the intent to deliver, more than 500 grams but not more than 2,000 grams of a substance containing cannabis. He is also a convicted felon and had in his possession a firearm at the time of his arrest. An agent from Tri-DENT testified before the grand jury. Sterling is free from custody of the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office after posting bond in the amount of $100,000-10% of which was posted for his release.

Jason D. Walker, 47, homeless was indicted for the class 4 felony offense of unlawful residency of a child sex offender and the class 2 felony offense of failure to report change of address as a sex offender. He is accused of residing at a residence within 500 feet of a playground and then failing to report within three days of changing his address in Spring Valley. An officer from the Spring Valley Police Department testified before the grand jury. Walker is in custody of the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office with bond set in the amount of $75,000-10% of which must be posted for his release.

Quincy L. McCoy, 34, Bolingbrook was indicted for two counts of the class 2 felony offense of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and one count of the class 4 felony offense of reckless discharge of a firearm. He is accused of possessing a firearm and being a convicted felon and also discharging the firearm in a reckless manner by firing the pistol seven times when an individual was in the area and also striking a garage. An officer from Spring Valley Police Department testified before the grand jury. McCoy is in custody of the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office with bond set in the amount of $150,000-10% of which must be posted for his release.

These indictments were presented to the grand jury by State’s Attorney Geno Caffarini and First Assistant State’s Attorney Thomas Briddick and were returned before Judge Marc Bernabei and Judge James Andreoni.

These indictments are only accusations against the defendants. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
