LAKE FOREST – Bears head coach Matt Nagy said Monday morning that he had no update on starting quarterback Justin Fields, who injured his ribs in Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
“That’s what we’re looking at this morning,” Nagy said. “I can’t rule out anything. All I can say is that we’re waiting to get feedback [Monday morning].”
Atlanta-based photographer Simeon Kelley, who is good friends with Fields, posted a video of Fields to Instagram on Sunday night, during which Fields said he didn’t have any broken ribs. Fields was laying down on his side in the video.
Nagy couldn’t say if Fields had broken any ribs.
“I think there’s different levels to it,” Nagy said Monday. “It comes down to the doctors and what they say.”
Fields played the entire first half and the first possession of the third quarter before being attended to by the training staff. Fields spent several minutes in the injury tent on the sideline, then left the Bears sideline for the locker room. He did not return to the game.

Fields took a sack on his final possession of the game and scrambled for a 6-yard gain on what wound up as his final play of the game.
“I don’t know if it was an exact play, from talking to him,” Nagy said Monday. “I don’t even know if he knows that. It might have just been something that he started feeling.”
In his place, veteran backup Andy Dalton threw for 201 yards and two touchdown passes. Dalton threw what could have been the game-winning, 49-yard touchdown pass to receiver Marquise Goodwin with less than two minutes to play. The Bears defense, however, could not hold on against Baltimore and quarterback Tyler Huntley, who was making his first NFL start.

The Bears have a quick turnaround this week with an 11:30 a.m. Thanksgiving Day game against the Detroit Lions. They will try to break their five-game losing streak against a Lions team that enters 0-9-1 and was forced to start backup quarterback Tim Boyle on Sunday in a loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Nagy said the team will prepare the next few days for the possibility that Fields or Dalton might be starting Thursday.
Fields dealt with a rib injury last year during the College Football Playoff. He took a huge hit in the semifinal against Clemson and dealt with the rib injury in the national championship game against Alabama.
Nagy said it’s important for Fields to get every rep he can during his rookie season. Starting him Thursday, if he’s healthy, would still be preferable.
“At the same time, there is a safety issue to make sure things don’t get worse,” Nagy said.
