A successful Sycamore Rotary Harvest Raffle led by Rotarian Brandon Diviak allowed the Rotary Club of Sycamore to award two $2,500 checks to the Sycamore Food Pantry and the Spartan Food Pantry, according to a news release.

The Sycamore Food Pantry, located at the United Methodist Church, has operated for more than 27 years feeding the hungry. About 130 families are currently using the food pantry each month. Client families are able to receive canned fruits and vegetables, dairy items and frozen meat and paper products at no cost.

The pantry is open from noon to 4 p.m. each Monday, and Sycamore families are allowed to visit once a month. The food pantry partners with several local businesses for food donations, including Aldi, Meijer and Panera Bread Co.

The Sycamore Food Pantry recently gave out more than 85 turkey meals to families for a little extra holiday cheer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Spartan Food Pantry is supported by donations from Sycamore School District 427 teachers and staff, community sponsors and individuals.

Through the Northern Illinois Food Bank, monetary donations are amplified to provide more food at lower costs. Contributions are tax-deductible, and a contribution form can be obtained by emailing spartanfoodpantry@syc427.org.

Volunteers are appreciated. From unloading food and stocking shelves to providing a friendly face to those in need, volunteers are what make the Spartan Food Pantry an inviting and supportive place. Any individual or organization that would like to volunteer for one of the shifts can email or call the pantry.

In spite of the current coronavirus challenges, the Rotary Club of Sycamore continues to meet weekly via Zoom with its more than 100 members under the leadership of President Michael DeVito. Although the virus has changed many of its 2020 activities and fundraisers, the club has found creative ways to continue its mission of “service above self.”

Anyone who is interested can call DeVito for information at 815-408-6441.

The Rotary club is one of more than 34,000 Rotary clubs worldwide. The local club is active, helping international, regional and local efforts. In addition to sponsoring a young adults Rotaract Club, the club also sponsors a satellite Rotary Club at Oak Crest Senior Living Center.
