La Salle County coronavirus update: Ottawa, Mendota, La Salle, Peru all see double-digit increases in new cases

Three additional COVID-related deaths reported Saturday

Three additional coronavirus-related deaths in La Salle County were reported Saturday to the La Salle County Health Department, bringing the total since the pandemic began in mid-March to 114.

The three deaths reported Saturday were all men in their 80s.

There were also 118 new confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases (bringing that running total to 5,435) and 177 additional recoveries from the disease (bringing that running total to 3,022). There are currently 2,299 known cases active as La Salle County remains in the state's orange warning level for COVID-19 Risk Metrics.

The 118 new cases include two women and two men in their 90s, four women and a man in their 80s, four women and six men in their 70s, nine women and six men in their 60s, seven women and seven men in their 50s, 12 women and nine men in their 40s, 10 women and six men in their 30s, six women and 10 men in their 20s, eight girls and two boys in their teens, and six girls and one boy younger than age 13.

On Wednesday, which has the latest data available from the Illinois Department of Public Health, 16.1% of 733 La Salle County residents tested were positive for the virus, the third straight day it has been under 20%. From Nov. 12 to 18, La Salle County has had a test positivity rate of 19.6%. The county exceeded 20% positivity four of those seven days.
