Woman robs victim at Louis Joliet Mall parking lot: cops

A homeless woman robbed another woman while she was loading her child and items into her vehicle in the parking lot of Louis Joliet Mall, police said.

About 1:15 p.m. Monday, officers went to the 3340 Mall Loop Drive parking lot in response to a report of a robbery, according to a Joliet police news release.

When the officers arrived, they determined that a woman had been robbed in the parking lot while attempting to enter her vehicle to leave, police said. The officers’ investigation showed that while she was loading her child and items into her vehicle, Ashleigh Nussbaum, 36, approached her and asked her for money, police said.

“The victim refused at which time Nussbaum then demanded that the victim give her everything she had. The victim handed over a small amount of cash and Nussbaum fled on foot from the area,” police said.

While the officers were speaking with the woman who was robbed, they learned that other officers checking the area had located a woman who matched the description of the suspect, police said.

“Officers were able to positively identify Nussbaum as the suspect and she was taken into custody without incident,” police said.

Nussbaum had the proceeds from the robbery on her at the time of the arrest, police said.

Nussbaum was arrested by the officers on probable cause of robbery and she was taken to the Will County jail at close to 4 p.m. on Monday.

Nussbaum remained in jail as of Tuesday afternoon. She was scheduled for a court hearing on her bond at 1:30 p.m. the same day.
