Amazon announced it will hire for about 100,000 new seasonal jobs ahead of the holiday season, which includes more than 6,500 positions in Illinois.

The logistics giant has facilities in Joliet, Romeoville, Crest Hill, Channahon and Monee.

The new seasonal jobs offer opportunities for pay incentives, benefits and a path to a longer-term career, according to a news release.

Amazon also pays an "industry-leading" $15 minimum wage and comprehensive health, dental and vision insurance for full-time employees.

At the onset of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the company stepped up its precautions to protect workers. Multiple workers at a Joliet facility had tested positive earlier this year.

The company has continued to expand in the region, including opening its Channahon facility earlier this year.
