McHenry man faces child porn charges stemming from Illinois Attorney General's Office investigation

A child pornography investigation by the Office of the Illinois Attorney General led to the arrest Wednesday of a 28-year-old McHenry man.

David P. Stone is charged with 10 counts of reproducing child pornography – Class X felonies punishable by as many as 60 to 120 years in prison, according to a news release.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s investigators, with the assistance of the McHenry Police Department and the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, searched Stone’s home in the the 5900 block of Bluegrass Trail. McHenry police officers arrested Stone after they discovered “evidence of alleged child pornography,” according to the release.

Stone is accused of possessing multiple sexually explicit videos or photographs of children younger than 13 years old, according to a criminal complaint.

He remained at the McHenry County Jail on Thursday on a $300,000 bond. Should Stone post bail, he would be barred from having contact with minors or using the internet for “illicit” purposes, according to the release.

“Child pornography is an absolutely reprehensible crime, and the individuals who reproduce these horrific images must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Raoul said in an official statement. “My office will continue to partner with local law enforcement to locate and hold these offenders accountable.”

Using a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Raoul’s office runs the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The team investigates child exploitation crimes and trains law enforcement agencies. Since 2006, the attorney general’s ICAC Task Force has been involved in the arrests of more than 1,700 people.

“We are pleased that the result of this investigation led us to approve charges for this incredibly heinous offense,” McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally said in the release. “Child pornography and other offenses like it are not victimless crimes and have a lasting negative impact on those depicted as well as the community as a whole.”

Stone had not yet hired a private attorney as of Thursday afternoon. He’s due back in court Monday for a bond hearing, records show.
