Juveniles charged in Wheaton armed robbery released to custody of parents

Three male juveniles accused of robbing two individuals at gunpoint were released Wednesday to the custody of their parents.

A fourth individual also charged, Mikayla Jawor, 22, of the 6700 block of Tudor Lane, Westmont, appeared in DuPage County Bond Court where Judge Jeffrey MacKay set a $50,000 recognizance bond, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's Office news release.

All four defendants have been charged with one count of aggravated robbery – dangerous weapon or firearm. The three juveniles also face an additional count of robbery, according to the release.

Wheaton police on Sept. 29 responded to a call of a robbery with a gun near the Wheaton College campus.

The three male juveniles allegedly approached the victims and took cannabis wax from them. One of the male juveniles was armed with a gun, later determined to be an air soft pistol, the release stated.

After the robbery, the three juveniles allegedly fled in a car driven by Jawor. Following an investigation conducted by Wheaton police, the car in which the defendants allegedly fled was located by a Carol Stream police officer, who performed a felony stop. All four defendants were taken into custody.

“Anyone suspected of committing a violent crime in DuPage County will quickly find themselves standing before a judge in court, either juvenile or adult,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

“I would like to thank the Wheaton Police Department for their work on identifying the suspects in this case as well as the Carol Stream Police Department for their alert policing, which led to the arrest of the suspects in this case."

“Violent crime will not be tolerated in our community, regardless of the ages of those allegedly involved,” Wheaton Police Chief Bill Murphy said in a statement. “I would like to thank the quick response of our telecommunicators in broadcasting the suspect description to other police departments and to the members of the Carol Stream Police Department who located the suspects.”

Jawor’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 5 for arraignment.
