Local roundup: Rock Falls girls win golf quadrangular on road

Oregon boys & girls golfers top Cogs; Erie-Prophetstown boys shoot past Rockets

The Rock Falls girls golf team rolled to a quadrangular win Wednesday at Prophet Hills, shooting a 175 to defeat Three Rivers trio Bureau Valley (205), Princeton (216) and Erie-Prophetstown (223).

Rockets Megan Fiorini and Ellie Wasson shared medalist honors with matching 41s, while Lauren Tupper fired a 45 and Madison Thatcher added a 48. Taylor Brown (53) and Brooke Danreiter (54) also played for Rock Falls.

BV got a 48 from Lily Pickard, 52s from Elisabeth Sullivan and Regan Cook, and a 53 from Callie Schoff.

The host Panthers were led by Malory Eggers’ 53, with Sabrina Soleta and Fiona Huffstutler firing 56s and Berkeley Eggers adding a 58.

Oregon 176, Genoa-Kingston 212: The Hawks shot the top six scores in a Big Northern win at Silver Ridge.

Mia Trampel was medalist with a 40, and Ava Hackman (41) was one stroke behind as runner-up. Lena Trampel fired a 46, Cassie Nyderek and Tori Marchetti both shot 49s and Helena Holden-Fox finished with a 50.

Boys golf

Galesburg 169, Sterling 173: The Golden Warriors came up just short in a Western Big 6 dual at Emerald Hill.

Carter Schlegel shot a 39 to lead Sterling, while Dale Guerrieri fired a 44 and Cam O’Brien and Christian Monarrez added 45s. Carter Morris had a 49 and Nate Ottens finished with a 50.

Galesburg’s Jason Runbom was medalist with a 37.

Erie-Prophetstown 160, Rock Falls 196: The Rockets fell to the Panthers in a nonconference dual at Rock River.

Erie-Prophetstown’s Dawson Haggard was medalist with a 38, one stroke ahead of teammate Bryce Rosenow (39) and two clear of Isaac Goodson (40). Logan Wunderlich’s 43 rounded out the Panthers’ score.

Evan Mandrell led Rock Falls with a 44, and Brady Richards fired a 46. Ben Folgers (50) and Caden Hartman (56) counted toward the team score, and Nicholas Vickers and Brody Van Weelden had 61s for the Rockets.

Oregon 203, Genoa-Kingston 205: The Hawks eked out a Big Northern victory at Silver Ridge despite the Cogs carding the two lowest scores.

Isaac Kaltenbrun paced Oregon with a 48, and Miley Smith fired a 49. Jarrett Dietrich had a 52 and Jackson Werren added a 54 to complete the Hawks’ score.

Genoa-Kingston’s Josh Kleba was medalist with a 46, and teammate Trevor Pierce (47) was one shot back as runner-up.

Cross country

Rockets sweep at Centennial Park: The Rock Falls boys and girls cross country teams ran to wins in a home meet against Eastland and Stillman Valley on Tuesday afternoon.

The girls took the top five spots to score a perfect 15, led by race winner Calin Gaulrapp (21:25). Eastland finished with 44 points, and Stillman did not field a full team.

Gracie Rippy was 30 seconds behind her teammate in second place (21:55), and she was followed by Sydney Reyes (23:12), Bryahna Ganther (23:35) and Kacey Estrella (24:12) in the 3-4-5 spots. Lilyana Spotts (8th, 24:33) also notched a top-10 finish.

Mara Schmieder (24:17) and Delaney Wilhelms (24:31) led the Cougars by finishing 6-7, and Addison Burkholder (9th, 25:17) and Natalie Reifsteck (10th, 25:23) rounded out the top 10. Jenica Stoner took 12th (26:04) and Kennedy Burkholder was 13th (26:47).

In the boys race, Rock Falls’ Victor Rivera won in 19:37, followed closely by teammates Jose Gomez (19:38) and Matthew Marcum (19:42) in second and third. Carter Dillon finished fifth (20:40), Josue De La Torre took sixth (21:19), and Dayton Greenwood placed eighth (21:34).

The Rockets finished with 17 points, with Stillman scoring 42. Eastland had only four runners, led by Hudson Groezinger in ninth (21:44). Ethan Dertz (13th, 23:57), JJ Prowant (15th, 24:46) and Gage Offill (20th, 29:56) also ran for the Cougars.
