WEEKEND SPORTS ROUNDUP: Plainfield North takes Big Cat Cup

Plainfield North retained the Big Cat Cup with a solid effort in the two-man scramble event that featured all four Plainfield schools.

Plainfield North's Drew Maletich and Partick Farman teamed up to score a 63 which established a new record for a team in the Big Cat Cup. Maletich also recorded a hole in one during play.

Also for Plainfield North, Todd and Tanner Daugherty worked together to take second with a score of 65.

Minooka 164, Joliet Township 172, Plainfield South 187: Led by strong efforts from Luke Petrovic and Kevin Phillips, the Minooka boys' golf team swept Joliet Township and Plainfield South in a triangular meet.

Petrovic fired a 37 at Inwood Golf Course with Phillips two shots behind at 39 to allow the Indians to post a solid team score.

Casey Tyrell turned in the top effort for Joliet with a round of 40.

Lincoln-Way West tops Homewood-Flossmoor in match play event: The Warriors won 9.5 to 2.5 in a event conducted at Balmoral Woods Golf Club.

Zack Phelps, Aiden Healy, Glenn Jackson, Dan Schaller and Will Pluskota all pulled out individual matchup victories for the Warriors, who are now 7-1 in dual events this season.

Peotone 201, Coal City 204: The Blue Devils squeaked out a victory at Cinder Ridge.

Peotone's top effort came from Miles Heflin who carded a 44, who shared medalist honors with Coal City's Tyler Johnson.

GIRLS GOLF

Joliet Township 324, Plainfield South 414: Joliet breezed to the victory in a 18-hole matchup.

Morgan Anderson led the way with a spectacular round of 76, while McKenna Anderson also turned in a personal best round of 78.

GIRLS TENNIS

Morris 5, Coal City 2: The Coalers got a pair of wins at the singles play level from Molly Stiles and Trinidy Barrus, but it was all Morris in the doubles portion of the event.

Morris squads of Grace Lines and Kyla Kjellsvik and Maddie Hughes and Libby Wright both won their doubles matchups easily as Morris swept all four doubles contested on the day.

Lydia Gile also picked up a singles victory for Morris.

Plainfield North 4, Minooka 3: The Tigers pulled out a narrow Southwest Prairie Conference victory.

CROSS COUNTRY

Joliet Catholic sweeps Providence: The Hilltopers had the top five finishers and cruised to the dual meet victory.

Owen O'Connor led the way for Joliet Catholic with a 17:33 clocking with Andrew Ciarlette (17:51) and Jacob Capalbo (17:58) close behind. Gabe Spesia (19:15) was the top finisher for Providence.

Van Eck keys Minooka efforts: Led by the 15:54 effort from Vincent Van Eck, the Indians earned a 24-34 win over Oswego East. Daniel Schalk was just behind the pace set by Van Eck, finishing second in 15:59.

The ladies weren't as fortunate on the team side, falling 23-36 to Oswego East, but did get a strong effort from Cassie Fuhrman who finished second in 19:40.

Plainfield Central cruises by Plainfield East: The top seven finishers all came from Plainfield Central who picked up a comfortable dual meet win over its district rivals.

Winner Paul DaVilla (16:46) and Michael Forbear (16:57) broke the 17-minute barrier in the winning effort for the Wildcats.
