Daily COVID-19 cases keep rising in Kane County

KANE COUNTY – Illinois public health officials on Friday reported 105 cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and two additional deaths. On Thursday, 80 new cases of the virus were reported. The total number of cases in the county is now 9,069.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in Kane County is 293, which is an adjusted number from the Illinois Department of Public Health. The two deaths were a man in his 40s and a woman in her 70s.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen five days of positivity increases and four days of hospital admission increases, an increase of one for both metrics. The region's positivity rate went up to 4.7% on Friday. Currently 32% of medical/surgical beds are available and 48% of ICU beds.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. The World Health Organization has said that in countries that have conducted extensive testing for COVID-19, the positivity rate should remain at 5% or lower for at least 14 days.

Health officials reported 1,941 new cases and 21 deaths statewide on Friday. Illinois now has a total of 178,837 cases statewide, including 7,495 deaths. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from July 23 – July 30 rose to 3.9%, while the daily positivity rate remained at 3.8% Friday, as the state reported a record-high of 49,782 tests.
