UPDATE: All I-88 entrance ramps into Aurora now closed, according to state police

AURORA – All entrance ramps to Aurora from Interstate 88 are closed until Monday, June 1 morning, according to state police.

Illinois State Police said in a social media statement on Sunday, May 31 evening that I-88 ramps to Orchard Road, Illinois Route 31/Lake Street, Farnsworth Avenue, Eola Road and Illinois Route 59 will be closed until at least 6 a.m. Monday. That comes after Aurora police announced in an earlier social media statement on Sunday the department has shut down the Interstate 88 exits for eastbound and westbound to Farnsworth Avenue and Eola Road.

State and local police announced earlier Sunday there would be interstate ramp closures affecting those in suburban Chicago areas following Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker activating the state's national guard.

Aurora police enacted a city-wide curfew starting 8:30 p.m. Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday, according to a separate social media statement. Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin issued the curfew due to the widespread incidents of violence, vandalism and stealing occurring throughout the city.

Pritzker previously activated 375 Illinois National Guard soldiers for state active duty to assist the Chicago Police Department in protecting Chicago residents, according to a Sunday news released issued by his office. The Sunday news release from the governor's office said the guard will carry out a limited mission to help manage street closures and will not interfere with peaceful protesters exercising their first amendment rights.

Illinois State Police announced in a Sunday news release the I-290 eastbound ramp to Congress, I-94 northbound ramp to Congress, I-90 northbound ramp to Ohio and I-90 southbound ramp to Ohio will be closed until further notice.

State police also announced in a separate news release later Sunday that northbound and southbound ramps to the Old Orchard Road exits on I-94 also have been closed. In another later Sunday news release, state police said I-94 northbound to eastbound and westbound Lake Avenue ramps also are closed until further notice.

State police also said in another Sunday evening news release I-80 eastbound and westbound ramps to Torrence Avenue are closed until further notice.

Metra also announced via social media they are suspending all service on Monday, June 1 "for the safety of the public and our employees, and because of municipal restrictions that are limiting the ability of our workers to reach job sites." That comes after the agency confirmed in an earlier post all trains scheduled to arrive downtown or leave downtown after 3:00 p.m. Sunday have been canceled.

• This story has been updated to include more closure and service suspension information from Illinois State Police and Metra. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
