SYCAMORE - An Elgin man was found dead on the bank of a waterway on Barber Greene Road Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.
Theodore E. Heise, 51, of Elgin, was found along the bank and pronounced dead on the scene by the DeKalb County Coroner's Office.
Sheriff's deputies received a missing person's report around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday to check on the status of a person in the 15000 block of Barber Greene Road.
DeKalb County Chief Deputy Andy Sullivan said the search ensued after police received word that Heise's car had been located nearby.
"Truly sad," Sullivan said. "His vehicle was found in that area and the search ensued from that and contact with the family."
After searching the area with the assistance of the Sycamore Police Department and the Conservation Police, along with a K-9 unit, the sheriff's office enlisted additional aid from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to conduct an aerial search using a helicopter.
Officials located a body from the helicopter on the bank of the waterway. No foul play is suspected, police said, though a death investigation remains underway.
This is a developing story which will be updated as more information becomes available.
