A Raising Cane's chicken restaurant may soon locate along Route 34 in Oswego's Prairie Market shopping center, just east of Douglas Road.
The village's planning and zoning commission is scheduled to consider plans for the restaurant during their next meeting on Thursday, April 9. The commission will render an advisory recommendation on the plans to the village board which, in turn, will cast the final ballot on the project.
According to the project plans, the Raising Cane's will locate at 2450 Route 34. To make way for the restaurant, a commercial building that most recently housed a Sleepy's Mattress store will be demolished. The building was originally constructed to house a Citibank branch.
The Raising Canes will have just over 3,300 square feet of floor space and include an indoor dining area and customer drive through, according to project plans.
In a press statement issued by the village, Village President Troy Parlier said he is very excited and has been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to announce the pending arrival of Raising Cane's in the village.
"Raising Cane’s is one of the fastest growing restaurants in America and has a tremendous following, especially with the younger audience. This says a lot about our community and the advantages we offer, and we are enthusiastic to work with our newest partner," Parlier said.
"Raising Cane’s is excited to continue our growth in the Chicagoland area,” said Anna Ball, regional leader of marketing, fry cook and cashier for the chain, in the statement. “We look forward to an Oswego location, hiring a top-notch crew and connecting with the community in the future.”
About 40 employees will staff the new restaurant.
The chain is known for its peculiarly stripped-down menu that focuses on just breaded and fried chicken fingers, served with Cane’s sauce, a tangy, slight spicy creamy dressing, plus fries, Texas toast and coleslaw.
