Map shows North Shore cities in Lake County have highest cluster of COVID-19 cases

184 people have tested positive for coronavirus

Confirmed coronavirus cases in Lake County are steadily increasing by the day, and the Lake County Health Department expects to see a significant increase in the number of COVID-19 cases within the county.

A total of 184 people out of 703,462 residents in the county have tested positive for COVID-19 since March 11, according to the department.

The county had 230 confirmed cases of the virus as of Friday.

The health department recently developed a map that shows the distribution of reported cases by municipality.

The map shows neighboring North Shore cities Lake Forest, Highland Park and Deerfield have the highest concentration of COVID-19 cases.

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, Lake Forest and Highland Park reported between 30 and 35 cases, the highest in the county.

Deerfield follows with 15 to 19 cases of the virus, and Libertyville and Waukegan have 10 to 14 cases.

North Chicago, Gurnee, Lake Zurich and Vernon Hills all reported between five and nine cases.

The map shows Lake Bluff had five to nine reported cases Wednesday, while it had less than five cases Thursday.

All other county municipalities reported less than five cases.

A Lake County resident first tested positive for COVID-19 on March 11 at the health department's laboratory.

The department found cases are not linked with travel or close contact with a known COVID-19 case. Rather, it has identified transmission of the disease through the community.
