AURORA – The city of Aurora has confirmed through the Kane County Health Department its first death due to COVID-19, according to a news release from the city.
A man in his 90s succumbed to COVID-19 complications on Monday after being diagnosed just two days prior, the release stated.
“This is heartbreaking news for the family and for our community,” stated Aurora Mayor Richard C. Irvin in the news release. “We extended our condolences and prayers to his family during this time of bereavement.”
Aurora has three other positives cases, which were confirmed over the weekend, including a woman in her 20s, a woman in her 30s and a woman in her 50s. Confirmations are provided to the city by the local health departments. Kane County has reported 24 positive cases as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health website.
“We’ve been preparing for the inevitable news that COVID-19 is here and spreading,” Irvin stated in the release. “This weekend brought us news of confirmed cases, including residents and one of our APD supervisors, and the sad passing of one of our senior citizens. This is real, and we must all continue to do our part to stop the spread. ”
Confirmed cases and deaths in Illinois continue to grow each day, with the most recent report of 1,535 confirmed cases and 16 deaths in the state as of Tuesday.
“These men and women represent families, communities and friendship groups,” stated Illinois Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton. “Their lives mattered. Prayers of comfort to those that mourn that loss.”
