Rekalyn “Reka” Albrecht of Ohio, Ill., has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for the office of the Bureau County coroner.
Albrecht was raised in Thomson, Ill., with four older brothers. She graduated from West Carroll High School and attended Sauk Valley Community College as an Illinois State Scholar. She transferred to Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling and graduated in September 2012.
After graduation, Albrecht served her apprenticeship at Law-Jones Funeral Home. While there, she also worked as a deputy coroner for Carroll County. Upon completion of her apprenticeship, she earned her funeral director and embalmer license.
She moved to Ohio, Ill., to start her life with fiancé, Greg Albrecht. They have since married and have two children, Dean (3) and Claire (1). She worked part-time at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut before starting full-time at Grant-Johnson Funeral Homes Inc. in 2016.
Albrecht stated that she excels at serving other people. She currently serves the Ohio community as a school board member for Ohio High School.
She stated being able to assist families through the difficult times of their lives is rewarding to her. She believes that what she does is important to the deceased and the ones they leave behind.
As coroner, Albrecht stated she would be able to serve Bureau County in the most sensitive times.
“I will work with the nurses, doctors, EMTs, police, firefighters, Gift of Hope affiliates, security officers, and all funeral directors professionally and respectfully to serve the community with compassion and morality,” she stated.
“I would appreciate your trust, support and confidence in the upcoming election.”
