City Electric Supply opens new store in McHenry

City Electric Supply has opened the doors to its McHenry branch, the newest of its 500 branches across the country after nearly a year of preparation.

CES chose a 75-year-old building, located at 4030 Main St., that was once a lumberyard in the center of town. Branch Manager Dan Mahan, District Manager Steven Zank and Vice President of Operations Jamie Marujo took close to four months to sign the contract, get in the door and tear down some walls in the building that was vacant for 25 years.

“We actually had to tear down an old part of the front of the building so our general contractor could rebuild it,” Mahan said. “During our build-out, we had several visitors stop by. They all were very happy to see CES was moving in and doing something with the property.”

McHenry's proximity to Chicago, its large industrial parks, and many local electricians makes it a great mix of commercial, residential and industrial customers, Manhan said.

Mahan said he trusts the branch is going to be unique because of the friendly and helpful atmosphere.

“When I talk to customers, I let them know they will be served in a professional manner with great customer service as our number one goal,” Mahan said.

Mahan has 12 years of experience, and his team holds a combined 20 years of experience in both the industry and customer service. Mahan worked with CES as an Operations Manager for four years before he left to expand his lighting knowledge.

“Coming back to work for CES was an easy decision for me to make. I just wanted to learn more and expand my knowledge, and I am glad I did,” Mahan said.

Mahan has a long list of reasons why he enjoys working for the company, but he said his top three are the great crew, the prime location and the opportunity to build a strong customer base.

“I am most excited to work with my crew day-in and day-out. They all have a great work ethic and are very funny. Honestly, it is my pleasure to come to work every day and get to do what I enjoy doing.”
