Cops: Man arrested for causing ruckus at Shorewood bank

A Minooka man was arrested for allegedly pounding his fists on a counter at Shorewood TCF Bank, throwing a credit card reader to the ground and causing other damage, police said.

On Dec. 11, Nicholas G. Reilly, 26, of the 1400 block of Plantain Drive went inside the 998 Brook Forest Ave. bank and became irate with the staff, Shorewood Police Chief Aaron Klima said.

The staff told officers after the incident that Reilly was upset about a bank fee, Klima said.

Reilly pounded his fist on the counter, yelled at a clerk and threw a credit card reader on the ground, Klima said. He also allegedly knocked over a stanchion, he said.

As Reilly was leaving the bank, he knocked down the bank’s Purrell hand sanitizer device, he said.

When Shorewood officers found Reilly, he refused to talk about the incident, Klima said. He was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

On Friday, Reilly appeared in court and submitted an affidavit of assets and liabilities to qualify for representation by the Will County Public Defender’s Office.

A judge denied his request, court records show. Reilly entered a plea of not guilty to the charges against him.

Reilly’s affidavit said he works for GEM Gaming, a video gambling terminal operator business, and earns $2,000 a month.
