Oswego woman sentenced for drug induced homicide after overdose

YORKVILLE – A Kendall County judge sentenced an Oswego woman to nine years in prison for drug-induced homicide related to a 2014 heroin overdose death of an Oswego man.

Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis said in a Monday, Jan. 27 news release that Stevi Myerscough, 32, of the 100 block of Harbor Drive in unincorporated Oswego Township, was sentenced to nine years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by Kendall County Chief Judge Robert Pilmer earlier this month.

The update comes after Myerscough was convicted by a Kendall County jury of drug induced homicide, a non-probationable Class X Felony, last October for the 2014 death of Chester Secor, 44, of Oswego.

The charges stemmed from when Myerscough was charged in 2017 following a Kendall County Sheriff's Office investigation. The investigation began in August 2014, when Chester Secor, 44, of Oswego was found dead in his home.

Police determined Secor died of heroin intoxication, or overdose, after deputies recovered heroin packets, along with cell phone records and text messages that led investigators to Myerscough.

Police said in the statement Myerscough admitted to being a heroin dealer and selling heroin to Secor on the day of his death. Another witness was able to corroborate the statements by Myerscough about selling heroin to Secor, the statement said.

Weis said in the Monday news release that Myerscough delivered drugs to Secor on multiple occasions in the past and was a distributor for a drug dealer out of Aurora.

Weis said in the statement Myerscough is required to serve at least 75% of her prison sentence before she will be required to serve three years of parole.

Weis and Kendall Couny Assistant State’s Attorney Andrea Boyle prosecuted the case and attorney Liam Dixon represented Myerscough, according to the news release.
