Streator's Guardian Angel Outreach moves to OSF facility

Organization serves mothers and infants

Guardian Angel Outreach moved earlier this month to the third floor of OSF Center for Health-Streator, 111 Spring St.

The organization was formally located at the former St. Casimir property, 405 S. Illinois St.

Guardian Angel is a mission of St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Streator, and Catholic Charities of the Peoria Diocese. It serves mothers and infants from all faiths.

The organization provides emotional support and supplies as needed. Clients from the baby’s conception up to the age of 3 are served. Any mother needing assistance is welcome.

Guardian Angel is open noon to 4 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays.

Mothers earn points in a variety of ways, such as reading parenting articles, taking their babies to doctor and immunization appointments, taking classes, reading to their children, and many other ways.

These points are then used to “purchase” diapers, wipes, clothing, and other supplies. When available, the points also may be used to obtain new infant car seats.

In addition, Guardian Angel also has a “free” room where clients may take gently-used clothing and other items that have been donated.

Guardian Angel Outreach was started by the Msgr. John Prendergast, former pastor of St. Michael Parish, and director Joyce Redfern, who, in turn, was succeeded by Misti Gula, Sr. Carol Royston, and current director Sharon Warfield.

The organization is supported entirely by St. Michael's Parish, under pastor Msgr. Philip Halfacre, Catholic Charities and donations from parish and community members and groups. It is staffed by volunteer women who provide practical advice and emotional support as needed as well as stock and distribute supplies.

More information is available by contacting Sharon Warfield at 815-673-3966 or 815-257-5520 or visiting Guardian Angel Outreach on Monday or Friday afternoon.
