The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County’s Business Member Program recently visited host and business member Riverbottom Ice Cream Co. on Main Street in Algonquin.
After enjoying various hot drinks and casual conversation, owners Bob Novak and Bobbie Parks-Novak discussed the sustainable business practices they observe, such as reduction in single plastics such as straws and spoons.
The establishment also uses reusable plates for those enjoying a breakfast sandwich or pastry in-house.
The owners said they would like to see a joint downtown business recycling plan for all businesses in the historic district along Main Street, and the Defenders plan to investigate that possibility in the future.
