Schofield kicks off campaign for 66th Illinois House District

Crystal Lake Republican and McHenry County Board member Carolyn Schofield has launched her campaign against state Rep. Allen Skillicorn for his seat as District 66 state representative.

Schofield, who serves on the County Board and the executive board of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, kicked off her campaign earlier this week with a reception at Huntley’s Parkside Pub. The Republican county board member has said the 66th District is need of change, following three years of “failed” leadership under incumbent Skillicorn, R-East Dundee.

“The math is simple,” Schofield said in an official statement. “There are currently 44 Republicans in the House and a bill takes 60 votes to pass. Republicans cannot pass a single bill without Democrat votes. I’ll reach across the aisle to find common ground and build trust. By working together with respect, I’ll achieve results where the current office-holder has failed.”

State Sen. Don DeWitte voiced his support for Schofield and highlighted her County Board experiences as a tool that would serve her well in the state House.

Skillicorn could not be reached for comment Sunday. In a statement he released last month, however, Skillicorn said Schofield “never met a tax increase she didn’t like.”

“[Schofield] once told Kane County GOP Executive Vice Chairman Jeff Meyer that the reason she supported so many property tax increases over the years was because the voters were not paying attention,” Skillicorn said in his August statement.
