St. Charles-based Tiny N Tall Rescue working to find homes for rescue dogs

Nonprofit group will be at Scarecrow Festival in October in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES – Since being established in 2017, St. Charles-based Tiny N Tall Rescue, Inc. has rescued almost 300 dogs of all sizes.

"We're hoping to get to 500 rescues by the end of the year," said Niccalina Santilli, who founded Tiny N Tall Rescue with Melissa Young.

The all-volunteer group is dedicated to providing temporary shelter, veterinary care and behavioral support for small and giant breed dogs as they transition into carefully selected homes. Santilli had previously lived in Bartlett, but moved to St. Charles last year.

The nonprofit group works with high kill animal shelters. As it name states, Tiny N Tall has dogs that are both tiny and tall.

"That's what we specialize in, dogs that are 25 pounds and under and then the giant breeds, like Great Danes and Cane Corsos," said Santilli, who herself owns a 160-pound Great Dane.

For the second straight year, Tiny N Tall Rescue will be at Scarecrow Festival, which will be held from Oct. 11-13 at Lincoln Park in downtown St. Charles. The group will be at the festival all three days with rescue dogs that are available for adoption.

Along with trying to find homes for the dogs, Tiny N Tall also is always looking for more foster families. The group also will take dogs that are surrendered by their families for whatever reason.

"The more foster families we have, the more dogs we can save," Santilli said.

Because Tiny N Tall Rescue is a nonprofit organization, it relies solely on donations to provide its dogs with medical care. For those who would like to help the organization, they can give monthly donations.
