Plano man in custody after allegedly failing to register as sex offender

PLANO – Police found a Plano resident wanted for allegedly failing to register as a sex offender at a local retail store.

Aurelio M. Aguirre, 37, of the 100 block of West Clark Street in Plano, had been wanted by the Aurora Police Department on charges for failing to register as a sex offender since December, according to a Plano police news release. Police said Aguirre, who was at the Walmart in the 6800 block of Route 34 as a customer, was taken out in handcuffs on Monday morning, Aug. 26 after an officer recognized his car in the store's parking lot.

According to the Illinois Sex Offender Registry, Aguirre was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse with a victim younger than 13 years old. He was 22 years old and the victim was 10 years old at the time of the offense, the registry said.

Aguirre's last reported address on the registry is 806 E. Benton St. in Aurora. Sexual predators are required to register every year for their natural life following conviction, according to the registry.

Aguirre was transported to Kendall County Jail after being spotted by Plano police on Monday, Aug. 26 and is being held there for another agency on bond, according to the news release.
