Edward O. Cedro

October 19, 1941–August 3, 2019

STERLING – Ed Cedro, 77, died on August 3, 2019, after a valiant journey with dementia. He was born in Rock Falls, Ill., to Orlando and Ellen (Epps) Cedro.

Ed graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1959 and married Susan Morris on June 6, 1964. Together, they had five children. Ed was trained for his trade through an apprenticeship at General Electric in Morrison, Ill.  Ed worked as a machinist for Northwestern Steel and Wire for 35 years. He had a passion for baseball, especially the Philadelphia Phillies. He also realized a boyhood dream of creating an extravagant Lionel train layout that many visitors enjoyed over the years. Ed loved listening to Rock and Roll music from the 1950s! He watched and shared all types of movies, from the classics to current releases. (His all-time favorite movie was “It’s a Wonderful Life”). Ed was proud to be a part of the planning and design committee of Gartner Park. Over an approximate 40-year time span, Ed proudly coached his sons and grandsons at that park.

Ed is survived by Susie, his wife of 55 years, his children Jeff Cedro of Sterling, Amy (John) Roach of WI, Deron (Debbie) Cedro of Ga., Amber Ramirez (Larry Wolfe) of Ariz., and Andrea Mallhi of Sterling, grandchildren Alyssa and Austin Cedro, Katie and Ellie Roach, Nick, Joey,and Kelsey Cedro, Allison, Danny, Zachary Ramirez, Lily Wolfe, Bowen Mallhi, great-grandchildren, Violet and Fiona, his brother Mike Cedro of Texas and sister Judy Beveroth of Arizona. Ed was preceded in death by his parents.

A private family burial will take place. The public is invited to a celebration of Ed’s life at Gartner Park in Sterling, Ill., on August 17, 2019, from 5-7 p.m. Please help celebrate Ed with memories and music at the ballpark. Friends and family are invited to wear their favorite baseball clothing. McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established by Ed’s family.
