Four Joliet West students qualified for state math competition

Four Joliet West High School math team members qualified to advance to the state math competition after competing against eight other high schools in the regional math competition at Joliet Junior College on Feb. 23.

The Joliet West Math Team is coached by Dan Spradley, head coach, and Danielle Perez, assistant coach.

For a student to advance as an individual, they must score in the top five scores in the written competition at regionals.

Senior Mary Pelzer qualified to compete in pre-calculus, junior Summit Kumar qualified to compete in Algebra II, sophomore Robert Fry qualified to compete in geometry and freshman Sean Zarobsky qualified to compete in algebra.

State competition was May 4 at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.
