STERLING – Ronald A. VanDenBerghe, 76, of Sterling died Thursday, April 18, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 13, 1942, in Kewanee, IL, the son of Albert August and Mabel Nellie (Moon) VanDenBerghe and was a 1961 graduate of Kewanee High School. While in high school he worked at Dell Farm Grocery. He then went to serve in the U.S. Army. After his service time, he went back to work at Dell Farm Grocery, working his way up to manager.
After that employment, Ron began working at John Deere in East Moline, retiring in 2007.
He married Beverly Ann (Hagen) Cain on October 24, 2003, in Las Vegas, Nev. Ron was a member of the Sterling Family Moose; had been a member of the Kewanee Eagles Club; and the American Legion. He enjoyed playing pool, riding his motorcycle, and was a NASCAR fan.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly, and their children, Michelle Ann (Terry) Engels of Kewanee, Jenny Riffle of Morrison, Amy (Jerry) Clark of Maricopa, AZ, and Robert (Charlene) Cain of Dixon; his sister, Sandra Kay Clemens of Elkhart, IN; grandchildren, Katelyn Engels, Lucas Geer, Joshua Cain, Nathan Magon, Jason Ryenolds, and Macie, Molly and Warren Riffle.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, from 10-11 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational – UCC in Rock Falls, with the Reverend Al Campbell officiating. Arrangements are being handled by McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory.
Memorials in his memory may be made to the Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.
