A 71-year-old Johnsburg man has been identified as the pedestrian who was struck by a truck while walking into a McHenry Home Depot on Sunday and later died, Public Affairs Officer Patrick Polidori said.
Officers responded at 12:41 p.m. Sunday to the Home Depot store, 2461 N. Richmond Road, according to a news release from McHenry police sent Monday.
An investigation determined that William Dammeyer was struck by a 2008 GMC Sierra HD pickup truck that was traveling near the entrance of the store. Police said 19-year-old Christian J. Zientko of McHenry was driving the truck.
Dammeyer had been taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital and then flown via Flight for Life to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Kevin Sears had said the victim suffered serious and multi-systemic injuries after he was hit. McHenry police learned Monday that Dammeyer had died, according to the release.
Zientko was cited for disobeying a stop sign, according to the release. Polidori said additional charges may be filed, pending the results of an ongoing investigation.
