Mexican restaurant to open next month in Algonquin

Algonquin soon will be home to a new Mexican restaurant.

Burrito Parrilla Mexicana will open next month at 2321 W. Algonquin Road. The site previously housed Fradillio’s Hot Dogs.

The fast-casual eatery specializes in burritos, tortas, tacos and salads.

There still is no official grand opening date, but manager Jose Arenas said it should be released next week.

“There is still work to be done on the interior, but we are happy to announce an early April opening. We will make sure to post opening date when it is set,” the company posted on its Facebook page.

“It will be very popular, I think,” Arenas said.

Martin Hernandez is the founder and owner of Burrito Parrilla Mexicana. He owns seven other such restaurants in Naperville, Carol Stream, Lombard, Lisle, Glendale Heights, West Chicago and Batavia.

Arenas said the food is “top of the line.”

“It’s all made here. Nothing is frozen. It’s all made fresh daily,” he said.

Earlier this winter, the Liquor Commission gave consent for the restaurant to serve alcohol for consumption on the premises.

Arenas said they plan to offer beer, wine and “margaritas, of course.”

“That’s what everybody’s asking for,” he said. “We’ve got to.”

Village President John Schmitt said he’s “very pleased” to have Burrito Parrilla Mexicana come to the village.

“I have never eaten at one of their shops, but I am told that they are really, really a good restaurant,” Schmitt said.

Schmitt said the restaurant will occupy a “really nice space” and was sorry to see Fradillio’s close about two years ago.

“We’ve been working very hard on marketing,” Schmitt said, adding that he believes restaurants “make an area a destination.”

“It’s a good thing for the community,” he said. “It’s heartening to see people making that investment in our community.”

Schmitt said he’s proud of the village’s “eclectic mix” of restaurants.

“We’ve got high-end seafood, we’ve got Montarra Grill – one of the highest-rated restaurants in the Chicago region – we’ve got Burrito Parrilla Mexicana, we’ve got Black Bear Bistro downtown, the new Cattleman’s Burger and Brew,” he said.
