Registration open for 2nd annual Huntley Hootenanny Glow 5K

Participants to be capped at 2,500 for annual event

Registration is open for the Huntley School District 158 Education Foundation’s second annual Huntley Hootenanny Glow 5K on Sept. 7.

Last year, the event drew 1,800 participants – about four times what had been expected – and collected about $18,000 for District 158’s Education Foundation, which went toward student scholarships and classroom grant initiatives.

This year, registration will be capped at 2,500 participants. Registration will not be available on race day.

An adult must be registered and participate with any children younger than 18.

Features of the race will include an untimed 5K run, a dance party, children’s activities and food from local vendors. The 5K will start at 7:15 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to use glow-in-the-dark body paints, glow sticks and other colorful accessories for the run.

Special awards will be given to the “glowiest” participant and “glowiest” building, fence or yard along the race route.

All participants registered before Aug. 23 will receive a neon shirt and goody bag. If registering after that day, shirts will be given on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

The cost is $5 for students and $20 for adults.

Prices will increase by $5 after Aug. 23.

Businesses interested in supporting the cause also can sign up to become a sponsor.
