McHenry County is poised to see several contested races in the consolidated election in April.
Those running for school boards had to turn in their petitions to the McHenry County Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. Monday. Most municipalities had the same deadline for those running for village boards and city councils.
Municipalities
The village of Lakewood has the president’s seat, three trustee seats with four-year terms and one trustee seat with a two-year term open. Phillip Stephan filed to run for the two-year president seat. Ryan Berman and incumbents Brian Augustine and Doug Ulrich will run for the four-year trustee positions.
Patrick Rexroat, an incumbent, and Pamila Eddy filed for the two-year seat.
In the village of Fox River Grove, four people are running for three four-year trustee seats. Incumbents Jenn Curttis and Patrick Wall face a challenge from Tom Anderson and Eric Anderson.
In the village of Cary, six people are running for three trustee seats: incumbents Jim Cosler, Kim Covelli and Ellen McAlpine, along with Sean Wheeler, Dale Collier and Tim Ritter.
In Crystal Lake, Mayor Aaron Shepley will run unopposed for another term. The city also has three City Council seats with four-year terms open. Cathy Ferguson, Brett Hopkins and Ellen Brady are seeking re-election.
The village of Oakwood Hills has three seats with four-year terms and one seat with a two-year term open. Incumbents Kristina Zahorik and Mark Wise are running for four-year terms, and incumbent Kelly Ruhnke is seeking a two-year term.
In the city of Woodstock, Thomas Grell, Lisa Lohmeyer, Wendy Piersall, Darrin Flynn and Michael Stanard are running for three seats with four-year terms.
In the village of Spring Grove, incumbents Jim Anhalt and Jeffrey Letzter are running against Kelly Popelka, Michael Lee and Ted Trzaskowski for three seats with four-year terms.
In the village of Huntley, three seats with four-year terms are open. Incumbents Timothy Hoeft, Niko Kanakaris and Harry Leopold are seeking re-election.
In the village of Lake in the Hills, three seats with four-year terms are open. Incumbents Ray Bogdanowski and Suzette Bojarski are seeking re-election. Jeffrey Jakubik, Diane Murphy, Michael Schneider and Alan Wilson also have put their hats in the ring.
In the city of Marengo, Michael Miller is running for re-election in the 1st Ward, and Michael DeSerto is seeking re-election in the 2nd Ward. The 3rd and 4th Wards have no petitioners.
In the city of Harvard, incumbent Ronald Burlingame hopes to save his seat from challenger Elizabeth “Lisa” Haderlein.
In the 2nd Ward, Daniel Carncross is seeking a two-year term, and Bona Heinsohn is seeking re-election for a four-year term. There are no candidates in the Harvard City Council’s 3rd and 4th Wards.
In the village of Union, four trustee seats are open, but only incumbents Mike Swanson, Debbie Pace and Stan McDonald are seeking a spot.
In the village of Prairie Grove, four trustee seats are open, including three four-year trustee seats and one unexpired two-year seat.
Incumbent Charlotte Kremer is seeking re-election for a four-year term, and Ronee Haisler is seeking a four-year seat.
In the village of Richmond, there are three four-year seats, and five people have filed petitions.
Incumbents Robert Elliot and Frank Peiler are running for re-election, along with Brian Schimian, Gina Garbis and Robert Kunowski.
In the village of Algonquin, there are three trustee seats open for four-year terms. John Spella, Cynthia Kanner, Jim Steigert, Robert Smith, Debby Sosine and Paulette Zolicoffer all filed.
Spella, Steigert and Sosine are seeking re-election.
The villages of Hebron, Johnsburg, McCullom Lake and Wonder Lake and the city of McHenry could not be reached for information Tuesday.
School boards
The McHenry County Clerk’s Office does not list the number of open seats in each district because the districts have not yet certified their ballots.
McHenry High School District 156 has three open board seats with three-year terms. Dawn Bremer, Nicole Morrow and Timothy Byers all filed for a spot.
Richmond-Burton High School District 157 has three open seats with four-year terms.
The five candidates who filed are Theresa “Tracy” Highley, Steven Holtz, Robert Satkiewicz, Jennifer Read and Michael Baird.
Huntley School District 158 could not be reached for comment on the number of open seats and their terms, but William T. Geheren, Ra’Shawn S. Walker, Kevin Gentry, Timothy Griskey, Anthony R. Quagliano and Melissa M. Maiorino have filed petitions.
Marengo-Union Elementary School District 165 has three open seats with four-year terms. Three people have filed: Lesley Pace, Barbara Dochterman and Matthew Erbstoesser.
Woodstock School District 200 has three open seats with four-year terms. The three candidates are Jerry Miceli, Michelle Bidwell and John Headley.
Nippersink School District 2 has five open seats with four-year terms; however, only four candidates have filed: Elizabeth Young, Elke Kleisch, Marcy Garrison and Bertram Irslinger.
Fox River Grove School District 3 has three seats with four-year terms, for which Gerry Blohm, Thomas Mollet and Melissa Brennan are seeking election.
Johnsburg School District 12 could not be reached for comment, but three people have filed paperwork: Valerie Klos, Meghan Michel and Gerald J. Harker.
McHenry School District 15 could not be reached for comment, but Matthew Stauner and Arne Waltmire submitted petitions.
Riley School District 18 has three seats with four-year terms, but only two petitioners: Victoria Kaczkos and Adam Borhart.
Alden-Hebron High School District 19 has three four-year seats open and two two-year seats open. Michael J. Norton, Kate Johnson, Kenneth Winkelman, Johnny Eskridge and Penny Smith submitted petitions, with Smith running for a two-year term.
Harrison School District 36 has three seats with four-year terms open. The three who submitted paperwork are Karen Parks, Mark Nothdorf and Laurie Alsot.
Prairie Grove School District 46 has three seats with four-year terms open. Stephanie Housh, Barclay Butler and Khushali Shah have filed petitions.
Crystal Lake Elementary School District 47 could not be reached for comment, but Curt Wadlington, Robert Fetzner and Ryan Farrell have filed petitions.
Harvard School District 50 could not be reached for comment, but Sandra J. Theriault, Julie Lehmann and Sharon McMillan filed petitions.
Marengo High School District 154 has three seats with four-year terms open and one seat with a two-year term. Anthony Martin, Scott Shepard, David Schultz and Farrah Ranzino submitted petitions, with Schultz seeking a two-year term.
Community High School District 155 has three open seats carrying four-year terms. Incumbents Amy Blazier and Adam Guss are running for re-election, along with Tom Vaclavek, Meghan Tillson, Jacob Justen and Scott Coffey.
