GLEN ELLYN – Developers will go to the table in Glen Ellyn Dec. 6 with another proposal for developing a mixed-use complex where Giesche Shoes once operated.

GSP Development has submitted an application for the formal review of a Planned Unit Development of the former Giesche Shoe site and the Village owned parking lot at 418 - 424 N. Main Street.

The project features a mixed-use building including 8,844 square feet of first floor commercial space, a two story parking garage (first floor public, second floor residential) and 107 luxury apartment units.

The Plan Commission will be reviewing the proposal at a public hearing scheduled for December 6, 2018 at 7 p.m. in the Galligan Board Room on the third floor of the Civic Center.

Residents had voiced concerns about other previous proposals, including a 2017 plan for a five-story, mixed-use complex at the site. That project would have included more than 9,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and 110 upper-floor, one- to three-bedroom apartments. Also in the proposal was a three-level parking deck on Hillside Avenue and Main Street with 557 spaces. Residents were concerned with the scale of the project, as well as increased traffic, parking and safety issues.

Plans are on-file in the Planning & Development Department and any questions or comments should be directed to Planner, Kelly Purvis at [ mailto:kpurvis@glenellyn.org ]kpurvis@glenellyn.org.
