Take Downers Grove Civic Center proposal to referendum
The proposed development of the Downers Grove Civic Center should be taken to a referendum whether legally required or not. This is such a significant change to the heart of Downers Grove that it should get consent from the majority of people, not just the board. There have been too many odd projects being developed in town that I would not trust the board on this one. Look at the warehouses being built on Lacey Road that don't fit in with the other Class A office complexes and nearby Morton Arboretum, as an example.
Surprising school scores
The recent Naperville Magazine included with delivery of the Chicago Tribune provided comparison scores of grade schools. As expected, Hinsdale's grade schools had the highest score. What was unexpected was Downers Grove's District 58 had the lowest score of the several communities, including nearby Westmont and Lisle, among others. Since a major portion of my real estate tax supports District 58, and the administration and teachers recently received nice salary increases, this is unacceptable. Looks like awarding poor performance.
'Disconcerting' rhetoric
I find it disconcerting that the president of the United States goes to battle for a nominee for the Supreme Court by saying "innocent until proven guilty," and then the very next sentence is leading a chorus of "lock her up" for Diane Feinstein or Hilary Clinton. I find it disconcerting that the president of the United States talks about the protesters (peaceful) practicing "mob rule" in front of the crowds who regularly act out "mob rule" violently. There is not so blind as he who will not see.
