Glen Ellyn boy dies after accident at birthday party

A second-grader at St. Petronille School in Glen Ellyn died Oct. 2 after an accident Sept. 30 at a birthday party at My Gym in Wheaton.

The wake for Brady Daniel Doherty, 7, of Glen Ellyn will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Parish Life Center of St. Petronille Parish, and the funeral will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 6 at St. Petronille Catholic Church.

Although Brady was not a student at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, Principal Linda Schweikhofer sent a message to families there informing them of the accident, saying several Lincoln students knew Brady. The information was provided by a family friend.

"The Doherty family is a close part of our Glen Ellyn community, and we wish to support them at this time," the email stated. "Brady was a ray of light to all who knew him, and [his parents] Dan and Colleen ask that he be remembered for his happiness and love of life."

The message asked that residents tie a blue ribbon around their parkway trees to show support for the Doherty family and light a candle on their doorstep during the next week to honor Brady.

My Gym is currently closed and could not be reached for comment. The Wheaton Police Department and DuPage County Coroner's Office did not comment on the incident.
