The St. Charles East senior forward scored a hat trick during last week's contest vs. Downers Grove North, and was voted by Chronicle readers as the winner

Name: Truitt Battin

School: St. Charles East

Sport: Soccer

Why he was selected: Voted and selected by Kane County Chronicle readers, Battin was chosen as the St. Charles Bank and Trust Most Valuable Athlete. Battin, a senior, scored three goals against Downers Grove North last week, and later helped St. Charles East to a third place finish in the St. Charles Invite. Battin had six goals and two assists in four games.

Battin caught up with Chronicle sports reporter Jacob Bartelson on his recent success and more.

Bartelson: What has been the main factor for your success thus far?

Battin: I attribute my success to hard work, perseverance, relentless team effort, and God's provision of health, strength, and skills.

Bartelson: It’s early in the season, but what areas have you been pleased with team-wise?

Battin: I am very pleased with the [defensive] ability to jell and work well as a team as well as the great saves of our goalie, Zach Doerr. I am also pleased with the offense's progress in switching the field and movement on & off the ball.

Bartelson: Conference play is about to begin. When you consider the conference as a whole, where do you feel your team stacks up?

Battin: With hard work, solid soccer fundamentals, and selfless play...i believe we are positioned and capable to win conference.

Bartelson: Former Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte follows you on Twitter. What’s the story behind that?

Battin: Matt Forte is a family friend that we met through Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Matt has given me helpful Godly counsel over the years about conquering life's challenges through a Biblical lens. I am thankful for his friendship and  support!
