Nest home decor shop opens in Sheffield

Rugs, lamps, art, pillows, glassware part of the inventory

PRINCETON — There’s a cozy little home decor shop now open on Sheffield’s main drag.

Mary Ann Cernovich has stepped outside her realm of antiques to offer a business that features a wide array of modern home decor pieces, including rugs, lamps, art, pillows, candles and glassware.

Nest also carries small gift items, accessories, pantry goodies and treasures found along Cernovich’s travels.

For the past several years, Cernovich has owned and operated antique shops in Sheffield. But when the opportunity arose to try something new, Cernovich decided to showcase a mix of new and old in her newest business. Shoppers will find both modern pieces and touches of antiques here and there.

Nest also carries all sorts of furniture pieces from mid-century to contemporary.

“I try to find unique pieces you don’t see in the area,” Cernovich said. “There’s a little something for everyone.”

Nest is nestled inside a little white building that stands alone on Sheffield’s Main Street. The building, which stands a little crooked, dates back to 1857 when it was built for a blacksmith.

The age of the building offers many unique features and characteristics that fit perfectly with the decor inside and provides a homelike feeling for shoppers.

Cernovich said the location has been home to many businesses throughout the years. She and her husband have owned the building for the past 20 years. Most recently it was home to a Christian radio station, which relocated. Cernovich said she didn’t want to see the building sit empty, so she took a risk and decided to give her new business idea a shot.

Cernovich has an eye for design. She's taken classes through the years and has had experience in flipping houses and being hired as an interior decorator for friends' homes.
It's those kinds of projects Cernovich really enjoys and hopes to one day pursue further once her shop takes off.

Nest in Sheffield is opened from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The business is at 108 S. Main St. To see images from the shop, “follow” nestsheffieldil on Instagram or “like” Nest on Facebook.
