Former Fulton High teacher gets 10 years for sex with student

GENESEO – A former Fulton High School teacher and baseball coach was sentenced to 10 years for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student between May and July 2015, while he was a math teacher at Geneseo High School.

Jayme K. Farrell, 33, of Morrison, was sentenced to two 5-year terms, to run consecutively, for aggravated criminal sexual abuse. As part of a plea agreement, six other counts were dismissed.

He also must register as a sex offender, and likely will lose his teaching license.

At his sentencing June 20, Henry County State’s Attorney Matt Schutte told the court that Farrell admitted to having a relationship with the girl, whom he was tutoring, and that he continued the relationship even after learning she was 17.

Farrell taught for 2 years at Fulton High School, where he had also been a student, before being hired by Geneseo in August 2013. He also was an assistant football, freshman baseball and varsity baseball coach at GHS.

He was arrested in Morrison on Dec. 20, 6 days after the investigation began.
