Police said a 27-year-old was fleeing from a man he had just stolen a $10,000 construction tool from when he hit the man with his car.
Huntley police arrested Sean E. Johnson, of the 100 block of East 73rd Street, Chicago, on a warrant Tuesday for burglary, theft and aggravated battery, according to a news release.
The arrest stemmed from a report that about 3 p.m. April 6, a man saw Johnson rummaging through the back of his work van in the Cosman Theatre parking lot in Huntley.
As the man approached Johnson, the Chicagoan fled, striking the alleged victim with his vehicle, according to the release. There were no injuries.
The man later discovered that the construction tool was stolen from his van.
The item belonged to Heels and Hardhats Contracting in Byron, the release stated.
After a police investigation, Johnson was arrested Tuesday and taken to the McHenry County Jail, where he remained Wednesday evening.
Johnson is charged with burglary, theft of items valued at $10,000 or more and aggravated battery. The theft charge typically carries a penalty of three to seven years in prison.
He is due in court Friday.
