Glen Ellyn man sentenced to 7 years for alcohol-fueled hit-and-run in Villa Park

GLEN ELLYN – A Glen Ellyn man charged in a hit-and-run crash in Villa Park has been sentenced to seven years in prison, according to a DuPage County State's Attorney's Office news release.

Lawrence Sieber, 64, of the zero to 100 block of South Park Boulevard, appeared at a sentencing hearing May 1, where Judge Jeffrey MacKay handed down the sentence.

Sieber pleaded guilty March 5 to a felony count of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol to cause great bodily harm. At about 4:50 p.m. Jan. 22, 2017, Sieber ignored a stop sign at Ardmore Avenue and Jackson Street in Villa Park and crashed into another vehicle in the intersection, severely injuring the driver, according to the release.

After the crash, Sieber fled the scene and was involved in three other crashes, one in Villa Park and two in Lombard, the release stated. Responding officers located Sieber driving his truck on Roosevelt Road and began to pursue him.

While stopped at a traffic light, Sieber rammed his truck into the car in front of him in an effort to elude arrest but was unsuccessful, according to the release. He was taken into custody following a brief struggle with officers in which he had to be forcibly removed from his truck, the release stated.

Sieber will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole, according to the release.
