ALGONQUIN – Danny Sorensen made a big switch from working with electrical contractors selling LED lighting to joining the bundt business.
Sorensen’s 2,200-square-foot Nothing Bundt Cakes franchise store opened Feb. 24 at Algonquin Commons, 2529 N. County Line Road.
“I was looking for a change in career and visited the Orland Park store, and you just saw people’s faces light up when they tried the samples, and it was just such a good atmosphere,” Sorensen said.
The business is a great opportunity to give back to the community, Sorensen said, and he hopes to help charities in any way he can. On
March 23, 20 percent of all sales will be donated to CASA of McHenry County, a nonprofit that advocates for children in court.
The store sells nine cake flavors and one seasonal flavor on rotation, and bundt cakes are offered in four sizes.
“It’s nothing like I’ve ever tasted before,” Sorensen said.
Sorensen said he picked Algonquin for the store’s location in April after seeing how friendly and helpful people in the area were. He said he drove up and down Randall Road, and everyone he spoke to was welcoming.
“It’s just different from Lincoln Park [where I live], where everyone is doing their own thing,” Sorensen said. “Here, it is a community. Word spreads quickly, and everyone has been super warm.”
Party and retail items, such as balloons, candles and decorations, also are sold at the store, making it a “one-stop shop” for any party.
Nothing Bundt Cakes is a franchise with 18 bakeries in the Chicago area. The Algonquin bakery will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 9 a.m.
March 22 with the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills and Crystal Lake chambers of commerce.
